Whether you had been subscribing to my wellness newsletter, or if you’re a new subscriber, I’m glad you’re here. I realize you have many different options when it comes to newsletters, so thank you for taking the time to read this one.
I’m sure you’re wondering what you can expect from The Reading Life. As you may have guessed, there will be book recommendations, but I will also be spotlighting authors and others who are making strides in the reading world. Plus, I’ll report on book-related events and independent bookstores that I find in my travels, and anything else I think would be of interest to this community.
A little about me:
My mom instilled a love of reading in me, and I’ve been a reader and a writer as long as I can remember. A typical bookworm, I would plead with my teachers to write a book report instead of concocting an experiment when the annual science fair rolled around. My favorite time of year was when the bookmobile would visit our school, and when I became a mom, I loved volunteering at the school book fairs. (I welcomed those Scholastic Books Clubs newsletters into our home like one would a tax refund!)
Some humble brags:
Between being a book club moderator for more than 20 years, a writer, and a podcast host, I’ve interviewed tons of authors, including New York Times bestselling authors Adriana Trigiani, Laura Munson, Joan Lunden (who was my one-year podcast anniversary guest!) and Ben Sherwood (who went on to become the president of Disney-ABC Television).
My article, “Seven Tips for a Successful Book Club,” placed in the Top 100 in the Magazine Feature Article category in the 2011 Writer’s Digest’s Writing Competition.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Springsteen photographer Nicki Germaine, whose book Springsteen: Liberty Hall, chronicles Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s shows at Liberty Hall in Houston, Texas in 1974, when they were on the verge of stardom and before they were officially the “E Street Band.”
A few years ago, I stepped into one of the most rewarding roles of my life: being a grandmother. I have two grandchildren and am truly blessed to spend time with these adorable little bookworms.
Thanks again for joining me on this new creative journey. I’m looking forward to sharing The Reading Life with you!
